The first combined funeral and memorial service for mother and son ever held in Hillsboro was conducted Saturday afternoon at the Christian Church in Hillsboro. Funeral services for Mrs. Gladys Krug who died Jan  10 (1945) at Culver Hospital, Crawfordsville after a few months' illness were conducted by Re. H.A Davis of Clermont, former Hillsboro pastor, who was also in charge of the memorial service for Mrs. Krug's son, Pfc. Billy Krug killed on the Anzio beachhead Italy May 29, 1944.

At the memorial service which followed the funeral, "America" was sung as a duet, after which Rev. Davis read a  letter from a commanding infantry colonel, telling the order of the memorial service held at sunset on July 11, 1944, for Pfc. Krug and his comrades who were killed while with the 179th Infantry. Rev. Davis made a short talk and gave a scripture reading and prayer.  At the close of the two services, the body of Ms. Krug was buried in Rose HIll cemetery, Hillsboro.
